Join artists from Concrete for The Siren Walk.
The siren walk brings us together communally to walk with and about the voices of war. A series of generative machines in the tunnels of The High Angle Battery compose the siren sound, which will be heard as the walk traverses the land toward the sea. In war-torn countries, the drone of sirens becomes a continuous soundtrack, a sound usually denoting fear, panic, and action in the listener.
The voice siren created by Concrete takes power back into the hands of those who have lost power and autonomy, having been silenced and forced to flee. The noise becomes a communal outcry and human call. You are invited to consider sound, to actively listen and to engage with the sensory experience of sound and footfall in a communal gesture and mapping.
Walking together can be a socially engaged practice, it can be seen as protest, a form of resistance and intervention. When walking together, we can be more open in conversation, learn something about the other people we walk with.
The walk will end by looking out to sea for a moment of silent contemplation.
As MAS(S) tours the UK, the footfall of all involved will have begun to map our borders, leaving a trace, an active mapping through participation.
Daily walks at 12pm and 4pm (walk takes approx 45 mins)
