History cannot be found through one lens, media, story or book – and neither can a map or trace of such places…as this drop-in day workshop will explore…
Chiswell Walled Garden becomes a drop-in laboratory for the day.
Explore the weird and wonderful landscape of Portland, focussing in and around the distance between Chiswell Walled Garden to Brandy Row – a short route, with a lot to be uncovered.
Ishwari and Leonie will use PRINT and SOUND to research this stretch of land in imaginative ways, and invite you to walk and make art with them, paying attention to the margins, to what lies underneath the surface and across the past, present and future.
Including printing activities such as Cyanotype, light-printing, flower pounding, pencil rubbings, and drawing. Sound-based activities include recording using contact mics, recording underwater, building musical instruments from local materials. Throughout the day, they will be adding these prints and sounds to make a layered ‘map’ of the area surrounding The Walled Garden and Brandy Row – building upon old/new, factual/fictional, historic/ futuristic stories.
