Deborah Bowness is a wallpaper maker internationally recognised for her innovative trompe l’oeil designs.
Since graduating with an MA in Mixed Media from the Royal College of Art Deborah has established a wallpaper and print-making practice which she runs from ‘The Print Room’ in East Sussex. Here she makes bespoke, hand-printed wallpaper artworks crafted by combining traditional silk screen and digital printing techniques.
Deborah has 25 years experience of designing, making and installing artworks in private and commercial spaces, within the public realm and festival setting. Her practice challenges preconceived notions of decorating moving surface decoration away from superficial pattern and embellishment. Using mis-registered photomontage images of everyday objects she reintroduces the familiar, ordinary and overlooked.
Deborah has exhibited extensively in exhibitions such as Somewhere Totally Else, Design Museum, London, Pattern Repeat, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Home Sweet Home, British Council, touring exhibition. She has designed to commission for clients including Habitat, Paul Smith, Christian Lacriox, Selfridges, and Universal Records. Deborah wallpapers are held in collections worldwide including the V&A, London, The Cooper Hewitt, New York and Museum des arts Decoratif, Paris.
