b-side’s 2026 festival, That Other Place, four days of international art across Portland’s quarries, streets and coastline is over. And now we are in The Guardian – but not why you might think!

The story: Airbnb has formally opposed our trade mark application for “bnb-side,” the name of our six room guesthouse in Fortuneswell, arguing it’s too close to their own. A multi billion dollar company, contesting three letters, used by a community arts charity on an island of 13,000 people.

bnb-side isn’t just a place to stay. It generates almost half of b-side’s annual turnover – funding the festival, housing artists in residence, and keeping local, national and international art happening in this special place. As our director Rocca Holly-Nambi told the Guardian: “It’s terrifying but we’re not going to back down.”
