Hidden behind the shops in Easton lies France Quarry — once worked for stone, now reclaimed by nature and transformed into a peaceful wildlife haven. It’s one of the precious green spaces that Portland is losing fast.
This much-loved site is now under threat.
Future Portland has the opportunity to secure two acres for community ownership — protecting this special place for people and nature, now and for generations to come.
Future Portland is a collaboration between three successful and experienced island-based organisations – b-side, Island Community Action (ICA) and The Portland Association (TPA).
We formed as a Community Benefit Society (CBS) in response to our individual and collaborative research and consultations, which led to the realisation that we share a vision and desire to support Portland’s community in having a stronger voice and more influence over what happens to and on our island.
Help Save France Quarry
Future Portland needs to raise £60,000 by April 2026. Thanks to incredible local support, £22,000 has already been pledged — but we still need your help to reach the target.
