Step beyond the official map and help create an alternative portrait of Portland.
Join Portland Museum and human ecologist Lala Imberh for a two-day drop-in creative mapping workshop exploring memories, stories and personal connections to the Island.
Together we’ll build a living “deep map” of Portland, layering drawings, writing and collage onto Ordnance Survey maps to reveal hidden places, shifting landscapes and imagined histories.
From forgotten landmarks to emotionally significant sites, every contribution helps create a richer, more personal portrait of Portland.
Using prompts, conversation, stickers, notes and collage, we’ll ask:
What lies beneath the surface of the map, and how might Portland look if told through lived experience?
This workshop forms part of research for Portland Museum’s forthcoming FROLIC project, exploring Portland’s prehistoric landscape through community knowledge, storytelling and creative cartography.
