Ukrainian full-length documentary “Culture VS War” - any war is a war of cultures
Part of our Refugee Week 2025 programme, come along to the screening of ‘Culture vs War’.
Artists have protected and preserved Ukrainian culture for centuries. Now, they stand side by side with all citizens. The CULTURE VS WAR project (https://culturevswar.org.ua/en/) amplifies the voices of creators who retain the ability to feel and act bravely despite the horrors of war.
The heroes of the film are well-known artists who have joined the ranks of the Armed Forces, as well as cultural figures actively engaged in volunteer activities. They share their stories to make us reflect on the meaning of freedom and democracy, and what it means to fight for these ideals, leaving behind their usual lives forever.
“For the Ukrainians, who with weapons in their hands go against the army, which was considered the second army in the world, the values of freedom, the values of independence and dignity turned out to be alive, real, such that one can and must die for them”
Serhii Zhadan, Ukrainian poet, musician, social activist.
