An Opeful Story
Island Community Action are a local, island-based charity that’s been part of Portland since 1999. What started as a small volunteer group has grown into a team delivering activities and services that tackle some of the island’s biggest challenges — supporting older people, young people, families and the wider community.
From befriending and lunch clubs to youth leadership, crafting projects, community events and environmental activities, everything we do is about one thing: helping Portland thrive.
Kim Wilcocks (CEO) grew up on the island, and went on to work on major national events (including the Olympics and Eurovision!), and came home because she wanted to give back to the place that shaped her.
Katy Pascoe, Portland born and bred, whose journey into community work started by reclaiming a sports hall for girls’ netball at 15 — and who’s been championing local people ever since.
Pop along for tea, coffee, cake and conversation — and find out more about the work happening right here on our island.
Come for the cake. Stay for the chat. Leave feeling hopeful.
