An Ope-ful Story
This month we’re honoured to welcome Sue Beacock, Chairwoman of the Islanders Youth and Community Centre on Portland. Sue will be sharing her powerful and deeply human story — from the long years she spent as a recluse after being wrongly accused in the Post Office scandal, to finding renewed purpose, connection and joy through taking on the centre.
Since reopening post-pandemic, Sue and the community around her have helped save the centre from closure, raising thousands of pounds to repair the sports hall and breathe new life into a space that has supported Portland’s young people since 1974.
Sue’s story is one of resilience, community spirit, and hope — a reminder of what can happen when people come together and believe in second chances.
