An Opeful Story – “Crumpet Claire” Claire Shilton and the story of Frolic!
In 2011, the name Frolic was chosen for a new disco in Bridport. What seemed like a simple, joyful word soon revealed deep Dorset connections.
There was HMS Frolic, an 18-gun brig built in Bridport in 1806; a model of the ship later arrived as a birthday gift. An oil painting of HMS Frolic, discovered in the Portland Arms, now hangs on Portland. Then came the discovery of The Frolics, a lost stone circle currently being researched by an artist and archaeologist.
Coincidence or something more? Ask at Claire and hear the curious story of how the word “Frolic” keeps turning up in the most unexpected places.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and it’s FREE. Join us every second Tuesday of the month.
