I am a poet and text artist with a particular interest in found text. Rather than telling stories about my experience, I work by sampling and collaging the language that we come across in life: in books and newspapers, but also in advertising and public notices, and in areas of specialist knowledge, such as the medical, military and legal professions. Language is the basic technology that we use to understand and inhabit the world, and for me an endless source for exploration and play.
For b-side Festival I will compose a new found-text work for Weymouth and Portland based upon local sources collected in the town in advance of the Festival. I will use text collected by listening in public places and from local newspaper and local history sources, together with what is in the news and on TV. This work will be displayed as moving and changing messages on a large-scale solar powered LCD digital text display that is normally used for roadside traffic management.
