Rosa Casado & Mike Brookes

A pair of complimentary sound works by artists Mike Brookes and Rosa Casado, created specifically for this year's festival, from their research into the social spaces and events of the town's recent past. (Accessed on 108 FM)

Alexandra Gardens Bandstand (1891-1924): The closing concert of the season, this week (1910).

"In the pleasant coolness of a fine September night nearly a thousand philharmonists sought the charms of music in the open air at Alexandra Gardens. The municipal band under the direction of Mr J S Howgill rendered a select programme with characteristic excellence".

Music from this programme can be encountered amongst the amusements that now occupy the gardens, and the public spaces surrounding of the current arcade building that echoes both the architecture and location of the original bandstand.

The Belle Vue Picture Palace (1910-1956): The final programme of films, this week (1956).

"After the last screening of this coming Saturday the cinema will close its doors".

The Belle Vue Picture Palace, the town's first dedicated cinema, opened in 1910 – converted from two adjacent houses. And finally closed, at the end of the summer season, in September 1956.

Sounds from the cinema's closing programme of screenings can be encountered in the streets surrounding Belle Vue.

These sounds have been combined in to a rolling programme that hangs in the air of Weymouth's Esplanade, and can be accessed at both sites via FM radio or radio enabled mobile on 108 FM. Radios can be borrowed from the tourist information office, in the the Pavilion theatre, at the the south end of the Esplanade.
