Ria Ekasari has worked in arts management field for over a decade, supporting artists and collectives in exhibitions, festivals, and cross-disciplinary programs
Though often behind the scenes, her long-term involvement has fostered a personal connection with art. For Ria, art is not a means of self-expression, but a space of pause—a way to reflect on the world and nurture a deeper connection with nature and the life around her.
In 2018, Ria began exploring wax as a medium using natural materials, particularly beeswax through an experimental approach. She combines heat and cold to create abstract forms that reflect both vulnerability and resilience, mirroring nature’s and humanity’s inherent adaptability. Her interest in wax’s impermanent and malleable nature led her to explore encaustic, an ancient painting technique dating back to Greek antiquity, which uses beeswax and damar resin as primary materials.
In 2025, Ria was selected as a grantee of the British Council’s Connections Through Culture program to undertake a residency in the Isle of Portland, UK. During the residency, she will deepen her encaustic practice technically and conceptually while engaging in exchange with local artists and communities. From this process, she initiated Encaustic Indonesia—a public education platform to introduce encaustic art more widely and inclusively across Indonesia.
