Platform Bursaries 2018
This year b-side is working with a number of South West based arts organisations to offer development of practise opportunities for South West based artists. Platform bursaries are for emerging visual artists or established artists who are interested in exploring new ways of working in a site responsive/ temporary/outdoor context.
The recipient of the b-side and Somerset Art Works bursary is Lucy Large. The bursary will include mentoring from the b-side and Somerset Art Works teams and an opportunity to take part in the b-side festival 2018.
About Lucy
Lucy Large studied sculpture at Camberwell College of Art in London, an experience which largely resulted in a prolonged period of doubt and panic about being an artist.
It took roughly eight years, a brief stint at teaching and working as a painter and decorator and the arrival of two children to demand a return to making. In recent years this has taken the form of wire sculptures and hand cut paper designs. Two recent invitations to make sculptural installations have also afforded a welcome opportunity to make site-specific work – firstly in a shipping container in the coastal town of Watchet, Somerset and then at National Trust property Lytes Cary Manor near Somerton.
Lucy lives and works in West Somerset.
