b-side festival is returning this year and in the leading up to the festival b-side will be hosting talks by the artists taking part. Kicking off this programme is underwater film maker and artist Emma Critchley.

b-side have moved to Portland – Come and meet the team!

b-side, the organisers of the biennial b-side arts festival, will be launching their brand new project space and office – Outpost – on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th May. Just in time for this year’s festival.

b-side is proud to announce that following intense evaluation from national experts and an international jury it has been selected as one of Europe’s finest festivals honored with the EFFE Label 2015-2016, 761 festivals from 31 countries now belong to the first generation of EFFE Label recipients.

Since winning a commission from Artangel and BBC Radio 4’s open call for emerging British artists, Katrina Palmer has based herself on the Isle of Portland.

b-side festival 2014 attracts over 12,000 visitors

This year’s b-side festival attracted over 12,000 visitors to contemporary arts events on Portland. The festival takes place every other year in Weymouth & Portland and began during the lead up to the London 2012 sailing events in Weymouth. More than 30 artists took part in this year’s Festival, which included a lullaby delivered by bike, art at the bus stop, a seaside puppet show with a twist, stories engraved on café cutlery, and a debate with a rabbit on Portland.

b-side Executive Director Alan Rogers said:

War to witches – artist gathers Portland’s stories

Artist Paul Soulellis is gathering stories, photographs, artwork, poetry and other interesting material from Portland residents to produce a new free publication which will be distributed during the b-side multimedia arts festival in September.

 

Paul is in residence at Portland Tophill Library until the end of June where he is talking to local people to gather their stories and invite them to contribute to his newspaper style publication, ‘Portland Bill’.

 

Amazing Opportunities to volunteer at Dorset Festivals this year

Four of Dorset’s most popular summer festivals are looking for Volunteer Champions to lead a field survey force.

Dorchester Festival (May 22-26), B-Town Throwdown (June 6-8), b-side (September 5-14) and Inside Out Dorset (September 12-26) are each looking to recruit dedicated and enthusiastic Volunteer Champions, who’ll assist with a concerted effort to find out who comes to their festivals and why.
